Thousands of words a day, hundreds of thousands a year. With almost two years of professional experience in translation, I specialise in popular science thanks to my work for National Geographic in subjects such as biology, space, the environment, and history, among others.
I have also localised webpages for series such as Genius, One Strange Rock, The Long Road Home, and projects such as Pristine Seas, Big Cats Initiative, Perpetual Planet, Planet or Plastic? or Photo Ark.

Enabling communication with foreign clients, in meetings, conferences and other events is essential to the exchange of knowledge. I have interpreted (in simultaneous, consecutive, liaison and chuchotage styles) both for NGOs and private companies at events on a varied range of topics, from projects to help African migrant women who are victims of FGM to an initiative about women's role within SMEs.

I have translated, subtitled and transcribed all sorts of short-form videos: testimonies from astronauts, explanations about animal behaviour, interviews with international figures (such as Paul McCartney), and even Antonio Bandera's dialogues as Pablo Picasso in the series Genius or words from renowned scientists such as Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey.
Two years of professional experience way not seem like much, but in this time I have been able to translate numerous projects, the majority for National Geographic, a client for whom I work on a daily basis producing translations and online content (articles, photo and video galleries). With an average of 3,000 words a day, my clients value my quality, speed and professionalism. Since before I had finished my degree I also began performing work as an interpreter, taking part in projects supported by the European Union.
Below you can see just some of the brands and organisations who have trusted me with their words.
"She's your best choice. Marcela is a professional person, extremely effective, responsible and always meets deadlines."
—DAVID RAMOS, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC
"Marcela Torres has been working with National Geographic for one year as a translator and she is a very professional and quick collaborator, with capacity for adaptation and almost immediate availability. In addition, she is especially fast with her deliveries and specialized in the subject of nature, history and science. Highly recommended."
—MARÍA BLÁZQUEZ, FOX NETWORKS GROUP
"“I want to thank Marcela for her sensitivity in working with us at the Ugandan leaders’ tour in Karibu. I think Marcela’s ease in which she was able to approach the difficult topics made it easier for the African women to be understood and to communicate.”
—ÁNGELES DÍAZ VIECO, PRESIDENT OF THE FUNDACIÓN SIMETRÍAS
Below is a sample of my interpreting work at the Testimony Tour event “From Africa to Europe”. I interpreted in both consecutive and chuchotage styles for the Ugandan leaders Jane Frances Kuka (Resident District Commissioner of Kapchorwa and former Minister for Gender and Culture), Gimbo Harriet Robinah (Director of Programmes at ActionAid), and Chebet Juliet Carolyn (community worker).
